London South Bank University (LSBU)
Course Director, Sport and Exercise Sciences
Senior Lecturer, Biomechanics

Research Interests:

  • Sporting performance
  • Dynamical systems in Sport Taekwondo.
  • Barefoot mechanics.
  • Pathological Gait.

Dave became a full-time lecturer in 2000 and had one main goal - to change people’s perception of Biomechanics and to illustrate its application in the ‘real world’. This ‘quest’ has resulted in open-minded students, new ideas on teaching and innovative product development. One such development is The FitFlop™ where Dave and his colleague Darren James developed the patented Microwobbleboard™ technology that makes this product activate certain muscles to a greater extent than ‘normal’ footwear.

Dave has another great passion and that is Taekwondo, particularly Sport Taekwondo.
He was the GB World University coach 2007 (Thailand), 2008 and 2009 (Serbia) and he is continually delving into his scientific knowledge to try and improve performance in this sport. As he always says … “It’s all mechanics”.

Darren James

London South Bank University (LSBU)
Researcher in Biomechanics

Research Interests:

  • Barefoot locomotion

Darren completed his B.Sc. (Hons) in Sport and Exercise science in 2004 and dived straight in to doctoral research in the area of barefoot locomotion. His passion for science and his love of data have led to Darren becoming an integral member of the research team at LSBU. In this capacity he was co-developer of The FitFlop™ Microwobbleboard™ technology that has proven itself to be a huge commercial success.
