It didn’t start in a boardroom. It started with exhausted feet.
Marcia Kilgore- entrepreneur, mother, mover-and-shaker (literally) - was running from meetings to school runs and back again when she realized something: the shoes that looked great never felt great. And the ones that felt good? Let’s just say she wasn’t about to wear them to a pitch meeting.
She searched for shoes that were both stylish and comfortable. She found nothing.
So she made them herself.
Marcia teamed up with biomechanics experts at London South Bank University- specifically Dr. David Cook, a specialist in how people actually move - to design a sandal that wouldn’t just be comfy, but be scientifically smart about it. The result? The first-ever FitFlop Walkstar, featuring the now-famous Microwobbleboard™ midsole.
What made it different? Three layers of engineered cushioning that:
People tried them on. Their feet breathed a sigh of relief. Told friends. Millions of pairs were sold. And just like that, a comfort-first movement was born.
FitFlop isn’t about trends. It’s about transformation- about making shoes that support your body, instead of sabotaging it. The idea caught on. Fast. And what began as a single sandal quietly ignited a global shift in what people expect from their footwear.
Today, FitFlop makes everything from ergonomic trainers and city-smart boots to addictive ballet flats with a shot of ‘supportive’ bounce in them. And the same biomechanical obsession goes into every style.
Not even close.
Ask Marcia if she’s finished and she’ll laugh. She’s still sketching, still testing, still walking miles in prototypes—because there’s always a better, smarter, more wearable version waiting to be discovered. One that will take you from commute to cocktails without a change of shoes (or posture).
And most likely, she’s doing it all in a pair of FitFlop sneakers.
