Just when you think they’re gone for good, clogs reappear in a new incarnation: suede and slouchy, platformed and posh, or sculptural enough to attract all the ‘artists’.
Throughout history, clogs have adapted to every era, from Dutch farmers working fields to 1970s hippies in communes. Minimalists dismissed them, sneaker fans laughed, and the Olsen twins briefly revived them (the tired look was theirs, not the clogs’).
### Why Clogs Are Back Now
In two words: comfort reigns. And somewhere between pandemic slippers and post-pandemic ‘real shoes’, clogs quietly became cool again.
In 2025, clogs are the footwear of confidence: a statement that says you care about fashion, but refuse to compromise on comfort.
Look around you. Fashion editors are sporting them on shoots. Artists are wearing them to gallery openings. It’s gotten to the point where runway models in heels almost look ridiculous. (Roksanda was way ahead of her time, rocking that long-haired fuzzy Shuv). In New York, clogs have taken over SoHo sidewalks; in London, Saturday mornings in Islington are all about the trench coat, the oat-milk latte, and the suede clog/slouchy sock combo.
### How to Wear Clogs in 2025
You can’t really get it wrong- but here’s how to get it right.
- With Socks (Scandi-Chic): Think hygge, but make it fashion. A thick, ribbed sock peeking out from a suede clog screams Copenhagen coffee-shop energy. Bonus: it’s cosy enough to make even February bearable.
- With Jeans (The Brooklyn Uniform): Clogs and denim are a love story. Wide-leg jeans. A crisp white tee. Platfform leather clogs. Maybe an oversized, great sweater. Effortless, like you didn’t try.
- With Dresses: Choose straight or knit styles, pair with mid-calf socks, and wear your favorite clog. Keep the dress style minimal for balance. The look is all about a modern, minimal approach, inspired by brands like Cos or Nili Lotan.
